Importantly, vaccines that can provide sterile immunity and inhibit virus transmission are lacking such that vaccines are only capable of preventing neuropathy, oncogenic disease and immunosuppression, but are unable to prevent MDV transmission or infection, leading to emergence of increasingly virulent pathotypes.
